Donation Progress

102 percent of goal achieved.

Goal:  $2,200.00
Achieved: $2,247.00

Don't walk behind me, I may not lead. Don't walk in front of me, I may not follow. Just walk beside me and be my friend.

Please support me as I take an amazing journey for the second time in the fight against breast cancer! The Breast Cancer 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. Net proceeds benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure and National Philanthropic Trust, funding important breast cancer research, education, screening, and treatment. My walk is in San Diego, CA from November 21-23, 2008!
If you would like for me to walk in honor of a family member or friend that you lost to breast cancer, please feel free to drop me an email with their name. I will create a ribbon just for them and attach it to my backpack.

August 18th Update
Well Team Beadalicious is buzzing along. Lisa Kan & I have reached the donation minimum of $2,200.

My Mom is getting closer and closer by the day, she only needs $280 more - which she will have in no time at the rate she has been going. :)

Virginia is the only one that REALLY needs HELP!!! She has worked hard to gain $380 in donations, even selling bracelets for donations (smart cookie). However, she still has to raise $1820 to raise. Our walk is November 21-23, 2008. That means that she only has 3 months left. That might seem like a long time - but to raise $1820, it really isn't. So if you had planned to donate to me and didn't yet....please, please, please donate to Virginia so that she can walk too. She can't fundraise at work and isn't really a computer person, so she needs are help.

In other news, my aunt Heather is thinking about joining the team. I encouraged her to join. I have a feeling that the donation minimum will be easy for her to meet. She is super friendly and has a huge network of family and friends to help her out. The more the merrier is my motto! :)

Love,
Sara

July 1, 2008 Update
Hi Everyone,

I'm sure you have been sitting on the edge of your seat, just waiting for my next Breast Cancer 3-day update. :)

The biggest news since I last wrote is that my mom joined Team Beadalicious! Her donations are pouring in steadily and she is already at a little over $600. I'm so proud of her. Some of you know my mom, most don't. She is a very quiet and very introverted person. So, she is totally stepping out of her comfort zone. It is really neat to see and I couldn't think of anyone that I'd rather have next to me to walk 60 miles. I'm just grateful to have a happy and healthy Mom, period, end of story. This is a HUGE bonus.

I reached my $2,200 minimum. YAY! Thank you to all that donated to me. Every dollar counts. So, if you planned to donate and haven't yet, please donate to my cousin Virginia. She is only at $150 and has a long way to go. Donate to Virginia on her 3day page: http://08.the3day.org/site/TR/Walk/SanDiegoEvent?pg=personal&fr_id=1187&fr_id=1187&px=1587798

Teammate, Lisa Kan just got us listed in The Australian Beading Magazine. So our team is officially internationally renown. See my blog for more details: http://softflexgirl.blogspot.com/2008/06/today-just-gets-better-and-better.html
Lisa is coming along well in her donations also. I am confident that she will meet the minimum in no time at all.

It's awfully hot here in AZ. All training has to be done in the gym or in the swimming pool these days. No more hikes, unless I head up North on the weekend.

I hope that this email finds all of you well. Thank you again for those that have already donated and if you have not and would like to - please donate on behalf of Virginia.

Much love,
Sara

A woman's chance of getting breast cancer increases with age.
Holy moly!

I have reached 26% of my goal and only have to raise $428 more to be able to paricipate in the walk. I'm so thankful that so many of my family, friends, co-workers and customers have found time and a little extra cash to contribute. I still have a long way to go. So, if you have a little extra cash and want to donate it to a good cause, please donate to the breast cancer 3-day.

Since I last wrote, I officially started a team. My friend and well known beadmaker, Lisa Kan signed up last weekend. And of course my beloved cousin, Virginia Barrera will be joining me too. Our combined team goal is $10,000, but we hope to raise much more than that.

Breast Cancer Fact:

Age: a major factor
A woman's chance of getting breast cancer increases with age. Your chance by your current age is:

age 50 1 in 37
age 60 1 in 26
age 70 1 in 24
ever 1 in 8

Breast Cancer can happen to anyone!
Hi Everyone -

I'm so excited that I just hit my 10% to goal mark. I thought that I would share some interesting and staggering statistics about breast cancer with you!

Who gets breast cancer?

Anyone can get breast cancer. For example, did
you know...

-The older a woman is, the more likely she is to get breast cancer?

-White women are more likely to get breast cancer than women of any other racial or ethnic group? They also have a better chance of survival, primarily because their cancer is usually detected earlier.

-African American women are more likely to die from breast cancer than white women.

-Men can get breast cancer too, although it is rare. Less than one of every 100 cases of breast cancer in the U.S. occurs in men.

-In 2007, it is estimated that men will account for 2,030 cases of breast cancer.

It is important to be knowledgeable about your body, whether you are a male or female. Men are far more likely to die from breast cancer because they don't think that it can happen to them.

Having said all that, I wish you and yours a happy and healthy holiday. Happy Presidents Day!

February 2nd Email~
Well it is officially 2008 and I officially need to start gathering donations. So far, I am up to $270 and am so thankful to the few early donors that got their donation in early. My goal is $6,000 so I have a LONG way to go but I feel ready to tackle the challenge.

Jennifer Wilson of the Best Bead Show has given me permission to leave a donation form in every booth at the Tucson Best Bead Show, this next week. There a 90 booths! She sure is a gem.

Everyone keeps asking if I have started training walks yet. No, I probably won't start training walks until August. However, my dog Honey and I have been doing a 5 mile on Saturday mornings down to a local eatery for breakfast and coffee. I'm pretty sure that Honey wouldn't be cut out for the 3-day because she barely makes it home.

My cousin Virginia has joined as my partner in crime and team member this year. She is still working on setting up a donation page, but we will have our pages linked together eventually.

And last but not least, Super Tuesday is this coming week - February 5th. I already voted since I will be in Tucson on the Gem & Mineral show. I am proud to say that I voted for Barack Obama. Please check him out, he is a really great candidate.

I'll love you no matter who you vote for - but Senator Obama is worth taking some time to listen to, regardless of what party line you typically fall into.

All my best,
Sara
