3 days, 60 miles - An amazing journey!
Please support me as I take an amazing journey in the fight against breast cancer! The Breast Cancer 3-Day is a 60-mile walk over the course of three days. Net proceeds benefit Susan G. Komen for the Cure and National Philanthropic Trust, funding important breast cancer research, education, screening, and treatment.
Over the past few months, I've been putting a lot of thought into what this all means to me - why it's so important. I honestly don't remember a time when "breast cancer" didn't exist as a part of my family. My namesake aunt had a mastectomy before I can even remember. And she was a survivor of that breast cancer. Such a strong woman. Phone calls and family reunions would bring news of a cousin with a lump or someone having a mastectomy - it almost seemed a matter of course.
Now, I realize that more than being in my past, breast cancer may well be a part of my future. And I want to know if it is that I will have the ability to fight the good fight. After a year of walking, after signing up for a half-marathon, I feel more armed to "fight" the family history of breast cancer I can't do anything about - I've taken the leap with my friend Susan to do a three-day walk together.
Hopefully it will also be something my pink princess will be proud of her Mommy for doing!
